On December 22, 2019, my friend James and I decided to attempt a shot at chasing NY&AR job RS-90 as it made its Sunday morning run out of Fresh Pond down the Bushwick and Lower Montauk Branches through the neighborhoods of Queens, NY. This day's power for the RS-90 was a nice trio of engines, featuring SW1001 101 and GMTX GP38-2s 2127 and 2200. The 101, built for the Long Island Railroad, is the only active SW1001 on the roster. RS-90 is seen as they creep out from under the Maspeth Industrial Center in its namesake Queens neighborhood as they cross Flushing Avenue and 56th Street as they make their way down the Bushwick Branch. They can be seen crossing Metropolitan Avenue and Woodward Avenue in Ridgewood before coupling up to a cut of USWX Trash Loads from the WM Bushkill Facility, which they pull back to Fresh Pond, but not before some wheel slip as the engineer brings the train up the steep grade across Flushing Avenue. A short time later after bringing their loads back to Fresh Pond, RS-90 heads down the Lower Montauk Branch to pick up trash loads from Blissville Yard in Long Island City. RS-90 returns back up the branch, seen passing under the new Koscuiuszko Bridge and crossing Maspeth Avenue with nine more trash loads.. Thanks for watching!
