June 26, 2022 #camino #caminofrances #caminodesantiago #buencamino #santiagodecompostela "If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change" Camino De Santiago Day 34: Molinaseca to Villafranca Del Bierzo, Spain 27 km (16.77 miles) This morning was a struggle. Continued foot pain. Another incline. And kind of a "blah" attitude. It's not all daisies and sunshine on the Camino. Some days, you just don't feel like getting up early and getting everything ready for a day of walking. And anticipating a day of foot pain is not thrilling. So, I took some time today to just focus on the flowers. Because, how can flowers NOT uplift your spirit? We headed towards Ponferrada with no food or snacks and nothing in the way of a bar/cafe for 6 miles. By the time we reached the templar castle, we were "hangry" on top of our "blah" attitudes. The Templars Castle of Ponferrada was constructed in 1178 AD. It was built to protect pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago. We explored it in it's entirety and then quickly found a bar/cafe where we devoured our meals and enjoyed the sun rays. We've also noticed in this region, everytime you order a drink you get a free surprise tapa. Free food=muy bueno!! A festival of some sort was happening in the city, the bridge adorned with flower petals and colorful designs. I appreciated the beauty all around me, but it is hard to unwrap your thoughts and not focus on pain when pain is the current top concern. I found myself almost embarrassed with my limp while walking as if that somehow makes me weak. By our arrival in Villafranca Del Bierzo, I just needed to get my hiking shoes off and put my feet up. Our very kind host Maria, at our albergue, gave me an ice pack which I gratefully accepted. We did walk to dinner, I had a delicious chicken sandwich and Andre enjoyed calamari. Something forefront on our minds and I think affecting our attitudes (besides the obvious foot pain) was meeting a pilgrim the previous evening who came across as very negative and borderline condescending/offensive. We realized how much that energy depleted our own. We made a pact to not allow that energy to affect us on this pilgrimage again. We know our limitations, and if I listened to someone else's opinion, I would have never jumped out of a perfectly good airplane at 14,000 feet!! I also made an inner pact to start paying attention to all the flower miracles along the trail. Each beautiful in their intricate design and unique color. Just like us. We are each uniquely beautiful in our own intricate design and color. Still praying for less foot pain. It's hard not to let this affect my spirit. But, I'm still walking so it hasn't stopped me yet!! Parar y oler las rosas!!
