I couldn't exactly understand why until I watched episode 6 and decided to delve deeper in what makes this current season compelling. A majority of the reason lies with the introduction of the new characters, Eugeo and Alice. Having them share the spotlight with Kirito allows the show to be fresh and come out of the stagnation it's been experiencing ever since its Aincrad arc finished. This season also sets up many philosophical themes that challenge the separation between virtual and reality. Are you also watching Sword Art this season?
