Unlike some of our other couples, Ilaria + Johnny are not in the midst of a budding romance or still fumbling through young adult restlessness. Already well into their careers, with children, experience, and many accolades to their names, I + J exemplify a partnership in all of the greatest ways. With a quiet understanding they navigate life leaning on each other’s best traits. Johnny, the sturdy unwavering canvas and Ilaria, the warm and creative palette. Their style and family are a beautifully modern tapestry of colors and their love, a timeless classic. Timeless. A word we kept coming back to as we were editing this film. From the red brick of Boston’s Beacon Hill to the intimacy of a city stroll lit only by gaslamp; the night would fit neatly between the pages of an F. Scott Fitzgerald or a song by Cole Porter. And Ilaria being a stylist means the looks were equally as timeless; classic and everlasting all at once. And yet the Dolce & Gabbana fits and David Yurman jewelry were merely the bunting hung among a festival of warm wishes and sincere love. The night concluded in a small charming restaurant dripping in memorabilia of early Americana. Martini glasses cluttering the bar, candlelit tables full of laughter; Fellini himself could not have set a more cinematic scene. Children and adults alike were wild and sentimental and love abounded. With the click of a polaroid, the first slice of a cake, and the raising of a glass time stopped. I + J held motionless in a moment of time, arms around each other embracing the wonderful chaos surrounding them.
