“It’s getting darker and more brutal” – Joey Batey on The Witcher Season 4 | Red Carpet Interview

At the London premiere of The Witcher: Season 4, Joey Batey — the long-time heart of the series — spoke about the darker, more brutal tone of the new season and how the show’s themes of family and legacy continue to evolve. “The world that you knew in Season 3 has been pulled out from underneath the characters’ feet,” he said. “It was revitalizing and galvanizing — there were so many new cast members this season, not just Liam and Laurence, but a whole gamut of people who brought their energy, compassion, and support.” Batey described the shift in tone: “It’s getting darker. It’s getting more brutal and animalistic. It took every ounce of everyone on set to keep our morale up when faced with plotlines that could really bring us down.” Speaking about the show’s deeper emotional threads, he added: “Found family and blended families have been the bedrock of this show since Season 1. But what [my character] really starts to explore now is legacy and artistry.” And on working alongside Laurence Fishburne, Batey was full of praise: “His energy is astounding. I just want to bottle it.
