How and Why to Harden Off Indoor-Sown Plants | Gardening 101 | Guten Yardening Here in zone 5 Wisconsin, it is time to start bringing out many of the seedlings we have been preparing over the past month plus to our outdoor growing space. However, we don’t want to shock the plants with the transition, so we need to harden them off before planting them. Hardening off seedlings enables them to acclimate to their new growing environment, strengthens them, and prepares them for new harsher growing conditions. This process takes time, but is well worth the effort because the plants are hardier and more likely to survive the transition outdoors. In this video we talk about why we harden off our plants, and we talk about how to properly harden off plants. It is hard to be patient when the weather gets warmer, and spring is in the air, but this is a gardening 101 must have step that will make a huge difference in your spring garden.
