1. Laparoscopic salpingostomy for ectopic pregnancy (Part 1)

This video shows a module from the gynaecological laparoscopy library on a virtual reality high fidelity laparoscopic simulator (LAPMentor, Simbionix, USA). The aim of this module is to perform a salpingostomy to remove an ectopic pregnancy in the left fallopian tube. The tube is held and stabilised using a grasper. A dissecting needle is then used to perform a linear cut over the distended segment of the tube. A suction-irrigation probe is used to extract its content, which is finally placed into an endobag and removed. This module was performed by Miss Neda Taghinejadi (University College London medical student) at the Royal Free Hospital Simulation Centre under the supervision of Miss Rezan Kadir (Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist) and Dr Pasquale Berlingieri (Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, and Co-ordinator of Screen-Based Simulation Research).
