Here’s a detailed look at the technologies and methods used 👇 🏗️ 1. Segmental Construction Technique The flyover is built using the precast segmental method, where concrete segments of the viaduct are cast in a controlled yard, cured, and then transported to the site. These segments are joined together span by span using epoxy and high-tension post-tensioning cables. Advantages: Faster construction, higher quality control, minimal disruption to traffic below. Used Equipment: Segment launching gantries, stress jacks, epoxy bonding systems. 🧱 2. Post-Tensioning Technology High-strength steel tendons (cables) are threaded through ducts inside each segment and tensioned using hydraulic jacks. This compresses the concrete, increasing its load-bearing capacity and durability. Type: Internal post-tensioning system (multi-strand). Benefit: Reduces cracking, enables long spans without intermediate supports, ideal for crossing wide junctions like Kathipara. 🔩 3. Form Traveller System (for Casting In-Situ Spans) At curved or complex junction sections, form travellers are used to cast concrete spans directly in place (in-situ). These movable frameworks allow engineers to build one segment at a time, projecting out from pier to pier, perfectly balanced by counterweights. Use Case: Where pre-cast segment placement is difficult or alignment changes rapidly. Benefit: Precision construction over live traffic zones. 🏗️ 4. Box Girder Design The viaduct uses pre-stressed box girders, which are hollow, rectangular concrete beams that offer excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Purpose: To support metro train loads efficiently while maintaining aesthetic, aerodynamic design. Advantage: Reduced material weight, easy maintenance access inside the box section. ⚙️ 5. Pier and Foundation Technology Given the high traffic and limited working space at Kathipara Junction, engineers used bored pile foundations with reinforced concrete piers designed to withstand seismic and dynamic train loads. Technology: Rotary piling rigs with bentonite slurry for soil stabilization. Special Feature: Pile caps constructed at night to minimize traffic disruption. 🚧 6. Launching Gantry (LG) Method A massive launching girder system is used to lift and place precast segments over the piers. The gantry moves forward span by span, joining and tensioning the segments in place. Control: Fully automated hydraulic synchronization and laser alignment systems. Safety: Equipped with load sensors and computer monitoring. 🔐 7. Safety & Monitoring Systems During construction, the project integrates real-time structural health monitoring using sensors and laser-based alignment checking. Tools: Total stations, digital theodolites, and 3D modeling for geometric control. Post-construction: Sensors monitor stress and deflection in the girder and track system. 🛰️ 8. BIM (Building Information Modeling) The entire design and execution process uses BIM technology to coordinate between structural, electrical, and architectural components. Advantage: Detects design clashes early, improves accuracy, and streamlines project timelines. ✅ Subscribe To Our Other YouTube Channels: Theneer Idaivelai: / @theneeridaivelai Naattu Nadappu: / @naattunadappu Skiddy: / @skiddytamil Lets Dance: / @letsdance3608 Welcome to Streetlight!
