Schalke 04 is one of the most important and traditional clubs in Germany and they are in the Bundesliga without being relegated since the 1990/1991 season. The club is also one of the most popular and supported in the country. Schalke is from the city of Gelsenkirchen, which is part of a region that has always been known for having a big coal-mine tradition and Schake was known at the time for having a big support from the local mine workers in Gelsenkirchen. As the years passed by, Schalke embraced their coal-minig heritage and roots and it became a really important part of the history of the club. Schalke 04 plays at the Veltins-Arena, which has the capacity for around 62000 people and the Ultras occupy the entire north stand, which is called “NordKurve Gelsenkirchen”. Schalke has a very active Ultra and Hooligan scene with plenty of groups and firms on the stand, but the most important ones are Ultras Gelsenkirchen (founded in 2002) and Hugos (founded in 2007). Other relevant firms are Marler Jungs, Bagage Schalke, F.D.C, Blue Boyz, Junge Chaoten, Erkenschwick, Hamm für GE, Gruppo Curva Nord and Die Kurve. Schalke Ultras are known for their passionate and loud support, great pyro shows and beautiful choreographies. Schalke 04 Ultra are considered to be apolitical and the entire scene have a big friendship with the Ultras of Nürnberg and Twente. The group Hugos has good relations with Torcida from Górnik Zabrze from Poland. Schalke´s biggest rival is Borussia Dortmund, whom they play a regional Derby. This is one of the biggest rivalries in the German football and the clashes between these two clubs often lead to some great atmosphere and actions from the Ultras on the stands.
