Technical Assistance to Kenya’s Witness Protection Agency

UNODC provides technical assistance to Kenya’s Witness Protection Agency to enhance the quality and efficiency of the Agency’s service delivery. This support is through the European Union-funded Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery in Kenya (PLEAD). This video features highlights from a ceremony in Nairobi, October 2020, during which the EU Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Simon Mordue, and the UNODC Regional Representative for Eastern Africa, Dr. Amado Philip de Andrés, handed over three double cabin pickups, three safes and three digital audio recorders to the Agency’s Director, Mrs. Alice Ondieki, all aimed at boosting the mobility of Witness Protection Officers in the field and address equipment shortages. The partners speak on their close collaboration in support of the Agency’s covert operations to protect threatened or intimidated witnesses to ensure their security and welfare is guaranteed when testifying in court.
