KENHA officials and police impound overloaded sand trucks on Thika-Garissa Highway

Thirteen trucks overloaded with sand were been impounded at Sofia area along Thika-Garissa highway. In an operation between Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) and police, the overloaded trucks were found without requisite number plates. Police said the drivers of the trucks fled when they got close to the operation area. According to Axle Load Enforcement and Highway Unit officer in charge John Gichohi, the operation was enabled by the virtual weighbridges that Kenha has erected on along the busy highway Police say they foiled an attempt by the drives to stage a protest to stop the operation KENHA says overloaded trucks have been the major cause of damage on highways across the country
