Hello everyone! My name is Nate Caywood and I am a Los Angeles based cinematographer. And I want to get better at my craft, and in order to do that I am analyzing the work of other people who are far better than I am, in the hopes I can replicate their work when I am on set. I have been wanting to do a video about using the technique of Silhouette in narrative cinematography for a while now and while I was doing research for it, I realized that a lot of the images that I connect with emotionally were crafted by Roger Deakins. Now I realize there are many video breaking down his work but I don't think I have seen one specifically about how he uses Silhouette to create tone, and when, and why he might do it.
