Lecture 24: Quantum Algorithms on an NMR Processor

Fixed axis Euler angle rotations implement one-qubit rotations. J-coupling is used to perform control-Z operation. Refocusing is needed to cancel always-on interactions. Transition selective pulses easily perform permutations. Pulse sequencing and shaping, together with Fourier analysis, is carried out by a classical control computer. Optimisation techniques use GRAPE, genetic algorithms and machine learning. Shor’s algorithm for factoring 15 was demonstrated in 2002. Methods to construct pseudopure states for spins from their thermal distributions are described: Temporal averaging, spatial averaging and logical labelling.
