AVE MARIA for baritone solo and mixed choir (SATB - div) a cappella Text: Marian antiphon Music by: Tine Bec (b. 1993) Composed: 2020 Commissioned by conductor Ambrož Čopi and KGBL Chamber Choir, dedicated to his wife Ana WORLD ONLINE PREMIERE: June 26, 2020 Cerkev Marije Pomočnice na Rakovniku / Parish Church of Our Lady of Help in Rakovnik, Ljubljana The Chamber Choir of the Ljubljana Conservatory for Music and Ballet, Slovenia Martin Kozjek, baritone solo Ambrož Čopi, Conductor About the composer: Vocal and vocal-instrumental music of young Slovenian composer Tine Bec is smooth and light, but in order to sound like this it requires devotion. Bec (b. 1993) studied composition with professor Jani Golob at Academy for Music in Ljubljana and graduated in 2018. He was member of many choirs during his studies and learned from best conductors in Slovenia. Today he teaches music and conducts various vocal groups. His compositions are often rewarded on competitions, and always well accepted among international public. The composer on his work: Ave Maria or Hail Mary is a very deep and strong, but at the same time very simple and modest prayer. I often find beauty in simplicity. That is why the composition consists of simple melodies and is harmonized within the bounds of tonality and modality. The main theme is composed of fragments of a Gregorian chant, which then develops into an improvised melody. The piece is written for choir and baritone solo and it illustrates a kind of prayer in a church. The choir represents group praying, whilst the soloist represents the voice of every individual within the group, every individual with their own distress and their own prayer. The composition was in the making around the time I was in a hospital for health reasons. This prayer came to mind lots of times. The piece is dedicated to my loving wife Ana, who selfelssly stood by me through that time.
