♪ Santa dedicates this to the many different cultural traditions of Christmas. (This is part of a series of videos that inform children about Christmas traditions and cultural differences in the way this holiday is celebrated around the world.) No copy infraction intended on my videos. Thanks for watching! Hawaiian Traditions: Christmas wasn't formally introduced to Hawaii until after 1820, the year Protestant missionaries came to Hawaii from New England. In ancient times, however, the holiday coincided with a traditional Hawaiian festival called Makahiki (mah-kah-HEE- kee). This celebration lasted for four months and included great feasts and games and during this time wars and conflicts were strictly forbidden. Today Hawaii residents import their Christmas trees from across the Pacific Ocean; arriving on the Christmas Tree Ship. And Santa gives his reindeer a Christmas break, arriving in a bright red outrigger canoe, barefoot, tanned and with his red furry pants rolled up. There are joyous Christmas concerts, community parades and dazzling displays throughout the state. Many of the churches have Christmas luau with the traditional kahlua pig, poi, fish, yams and coconut puddings though some local families usually have turkey for their Christmas dinners with pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce and many other mainland dishes that are popular. .•:*¨Mele Kalikimaka Hau'oli Makahikihou¨*:•. .•:*¨Merry Christmas and Happy New Year¨*:•.
