In this installment of oral histories for NCPTT's Documentation of Slave Cabin and Tenant Farming Houses Project, we visited the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana where we sat with Caroline Richard. As the Director of Le Petit Musée and Shrine of St. John Berchmans, she explained the history of the site, including that of the structure pictured behind her as the slave quarters, and names of the three original families it was constructed for. Along with countless facts of the school's history, Richard goes on to talk about the plaque on the wall listing the names of slaves who lived here as well as what their daily lives would entail here. This is part 1 of a 2 part series.
