MacOS includes Apple Dictation, but it’s designed for basic, real-time transcription. It struggles with longer thoughts, filler words, and natural speech patterns. In this video, I show how I replaced Apple Dictation with Whisper, OpenAI’s speech-to-text model, and why it produces cleaner, more accurate results. Instead of transcribing word-by-word, Whisper processes the full recording first, which leads to fewer mistakes and more natural output. I also share a simple macOS app I built to make Whisper practical for everyday use.
