am I still doing backstories? idk. why not? this is one of the angriest sounding ones i’ve written for sure. the last laugh is a song about betrayal, reckoning, and ultimately revenge, really. it’s loosely inspired by the infamous conspiracy against julius caeser - a little dramatic perhaps, but what is art, or storytelling, if not the overdramatisation of truth? anyway, i’ve had the bar “we’re gonna have the last laugh” floating around for ages. it was actually the first lyric i came up with when i was writing “the façade”, my debut release, but i could never figure out who it was that was having the last laugh, or why they were having it, so ended up ditching the idea in favour of smth else. then, a couple of months back, when i was coming up with words for this new song, it all clicked, and i knew what i was talking about. see, once i know what a song is actually about, i find it a lot easier to work on, and finish. whenever i dip my toes into the realm of the abstract, i end up floundering because there’s no clear path to take. i’d love to be able to write lyrics like bob dylan or thom yorke, who can barely tell you what their own words mean. it gives their songs an air of mystery, as if they themselves are autonomous, unknowable entities. i find that incredibly compelling. well, maybe one day…in the meantime you’ll have to put up with my constant contextualising xoxo as usual, enjoy, and lmk if u fw it follow me on: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3aTFO...
