This is one of the most precise and technical builds I’ve done yet. After tearing down the rear axle on this John Deere 9RX 640 and finding catastrophic damage, it’s time to put everything back together — and this is where it has to be perfect. With 640 horsepower going through this drivetrain, there is zero room for error. In this video, I walk through the full rebuild of the rear differential and input housing. From assembling the differential, building the input housing, and installing everything back into the axle — to setting preload, measuring rolling drag, determining the correct shim pack, and dialing in backlash and gear tooth contact pattern. This isn’t just a repair — this is a full precision setup where every measurement matters. If preload, backlash, or contact pattern are off, this tractor won’t last.
