Mesmerizing Kashmir Trip | Part 2 | Srinagar | Dal Lake | Shikara | Stay at The Grand Mamta | We arrived in Srinagar on December 24, 2023. We had booked Hotel The Grand Mamta for our stay. The hotel was within 600 m from Dal Lake. Our package included stay with Dinner and Breakfast. We had booked a deluxe room. On arrival we booked a prepaid cab for reaching the Hotel. We were allocatrd a 7 seater car and was charged ₹1100 for that. Rates are fixed and non negotiable at the counter as usual. We found a booth for availing sim card by travellers right outside the Airport as all pre-paid and most post-paid service providers do not have network coverage in Kashmir. Airtel postpaid has very good coverage. So we decided to have our own Airtel post paid nos from Mumbai which was a very good decision. Right outside the Airport, we could feel the chilling cold all around. We must mention the city has a very good coverage by the Indian Army in terms of ensuring security and it starts right from the Airport. The weather was partly foggy. We could see frozen iceflakes on the leaves/ branches. The entire nature was as if waiting for the snowfall to happen. Roads were mostly empty. We did not face much traffic enroute to Hotel. On arrival at Hotel, our luggage was assisted by hotel staff very cordially and we were allocated room no 403. We were very hungry and straightaway headed for lunch in the in-house restaurant where we were welcomed by fresh Kahwa. The hot delicious Kahwa truly set the mood for our Kashmir trip. We opted for Mutton Wazwan, Kashmiri pulao, Paneer butter masala. Lunch was very delicious specially the Wazwan. After a bit of rest, we set out for Shikara ride at Dal Lake which we enjoyed throughly with paneer and mushroom barbeque, Kahwa, shopping at Kishan Bazar and Meena Bazar which were floating markets andor hookah. Shopping at the floating markets were good experience as one can have great quality kashmiri products at very affordable price because all these are produced locally and are not taxed. They have wide array of cloths, artifacts, gift items, show pieces. After the sunset once lights come up, the night view of Dal Lake was equally beautiful special the Houseboats. We came back to the hotel after 3.5 hrs on the Dal Lake , fully satisfied. We had buffet dinner at Hotel which was good. Next Morning, We had buffet breakfast which was again good and contacted the reception for a car for our travel to Gulmarg. We also planned to cover polo view market on the way. We got a 7 seater car for ₹ 3000 for covering Polo view Market, Lal Chawk and drop to Our resort at Gulmarg.
