The life cycle of stars is an area of active research with new ideas, theories and models attempting to explain how stars are born, live and ultimately die over millions of years. Many people know that the most massive of stars will eventually explode and release incredible amounts of energy in a supernova event, leaving either a neutron star or a black hole behind afterwards... However this may not be the case as there may be a third possibility: a Quark Star! These celestial remnants would consist of degenerate free quark matter and be denser than neutron stars. Much denser and they would collapse under their own gravity and form a black hole. The conditions for such an object to form are scrupulous but with the trillions of stars in the observable Universe one would hope we could detect one. Yet scientists are still searching. This could imply current theories on star death are incomplete or we just don't know what we should be looking for. This video explains everything you should know about quark stars at an introductory level and discusses the difficulty we are having on detecting them and the significance of that. 0:00 - Introduction 0:38 - Life Cycle of Stars 2:29 - Neutron Stars, White Dwarfs and Quantum forces 4:33 - Quark Stars and Quantum Mechanics 5:30 - Detecting and Studying 6:52 - Strange Quark Stars 7:43 - Summary and Conclusion
