Marayur or Marayoor is a town in Devikulam taluk of Idukki district in Kerala, India. It is located 42 kilometers north of Munnar on SH 17 connecting Munnar with Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. Marayur is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above mean sea level and is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandalwood forests. Ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayur date back to the Stone Age. Marayur claims to be a part of a Stone Age civilization that is as old as 10,000 B.C. It is also home to a later period of large-scale dolmen-building. People migrated from Tamil Nadu to this area when the Madurai king Thirumalainaicker was defeated by Tippu Sultan, in the eighteenth century CE. The migrants created five villages, being Kanthalloor, Keezhanthur, Karayur, Marayur and Kottakudi. These villages were called the "Anju nadu", literally meaning "five lands" Subscribe to You tube channel: / travelwithanand Follow Facebook page: / travelwithanand Campsite we stayed: Nature Trails, Kanthalloor (https://goo.gl/maps/o8jDgENbHBX8HfaWA) ------------------------------------------ Content of this video 00:00 - Munnar 00:41 - Tea estate 01:26 - Lakkam water falls 02:04 - Marayoor sandalwood forest 02:20 - Kanthalloor 02:42 - Ottamalai view point 03:45 - Nature Trails camp site 04:50 - Kulachivayal Rocks 05:51 - Kulachivayal view point 06:26 - Kanthalloor tree house 08:37 - Puthur Village 09:28 - Keezhanthoor village 09:34 - Keezhathoor view point 10:05 - Keezhathoor water falls 11:11 - Marayoor Jaggery making unit 11:46 - Anakottapara, Muniyaras 12:46 - Kovilkadavu 13:10 - Murugan kovil & Muniyara ------------------------------------------------
