Camping in Texas Panhandle Region In this video Sharon and MiLena, the Two Tired Teachers, will talk about the Panhandle region of Texas. Before they start, Sharon shows you her Victoria, Texas t-shirt that the city sent soon after we sent in our requests. Many people seem to think the panhandle of Texas has only miles and miles of miles and miles with nothing but Amarillo to break up the drive. That isn't quite right. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the northern most region of Texas, and in this video we will preview some of what we saw and did. Our first stop on this trip was Caprock Canyons State Park, one of our favorites. We made this stop because we knew it was about time for the calves to appear, and we love seeing baby bison. We weren't disappointed. The calves we very young and the cows were very protective of their babies. We did not make another video about Caprock. We have two videos about the park and a different video about the trailway. Check those out to see more bison and a really gorgeous canyon. Our next stop was Lake McClellan National Grasslands. Their is a campground there, and there used to be a lake; however, the lake is no more. As a matter of fact, we rode our bikes across the lakebed. The campsites are very inexpensive, and we spent a couple of nights at Lake McClellan. The next night found us in a Cracker Barrel parking lot. We stopped there so that we would have only a short drive the next morning to the Jack Sisemore RV Museum. We learned that where we were is an extremely popular Cracker Barrel. Every RV site was taken, and people parked in restaurant parking after the restaurant was closed. ' Our stop at the Jack Sisemore RV Museum happened because at some future time we plan on visiting the RV museum in Elkhart, Indiana. We were looking up information about that, and saw the Amarillo RV museum mentioned. If you are in the Amarillo area and are interested in RVs, Jack Sisemore RV Museum is well worth your stop. From there, we went to Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. This was our second visit there. We do have a video of a small part of the recreation area, but this time we explored more. There are 7 National Recreation Area campgrounds around Lake Meredith, and we visited several of those and camped at two. While we were in the area, we visited the Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument. If you decide to visit, you will need to phone ahead to be certain they have personnel to do the tour and also if schools are there, the tours will probably be booked. Our last stop on this trip was Copper Breaks State Park, outside of Quanah, Texas. It's a bit south of the panhandle, but this was a third visit to this park, and the upcoming video is our first of the par= This isn't all of the camping that's available in the Texas Panhandle. There is another national grasslands in Dalhart that we plan on visiting in the future. Also, Dumas offers a free area run by the city. It has full hookups and allows campers to stay for 24 hours. If you just need fresh water and to dump your tanks, the Dumas park is wonderful for that. Palo Duro State Park is another great option for panhandle camping. We do have a video about that park, but this trip wasn't going to be long enough for us to visit Palo Duro again. Lake Arrowhead State Park is another camping place that is near the panhandle in Wichita Falls, Texas.
