Let's take a look at the Minn Kota Kayak Terrova! This is a non-sponsored and unbiased review of the motor. I purchased this motor for $1,499 and I did not receive any discounts or incentives to purchase or review this motor. The motor is 12V, 55lb thrust, and has a 36 inch shaft. Overall, I think this is a terrific trolling motor for the price. It lacks top end speed, however, the other features make up for what is lost in speed! PROS: It does a terrific job with spot lock and heading lock and it has been extremely reliable. It is serviceable and aftermarket parts are available which is a huge selling point compared to the Newport motors. I have also seen complaints with the old Motorguide motors that spot lock can be pretty jerky at times. The spot lock on the Terrova is smooth and it has done a great job, even in rough conditions. The heading lock is my favorite feature, the motor can be set to a very slow speed, and it will continue in a set direction allowing hands free fishing. It comes with the kayak remote, and it also has phone connectivity via Bluetooth and can be controlled from your phone. It can be easily taken on and off the boat with the bracket and installation is pretty user friendly. CONS: Top end speed could be better. With the stock Weedless Wedge II Prop this only pushed my Native Titan at about 3.25 mph. The Power Prop increases top speed to about 3.75 mph (a .5 mph increase). My previous Newport NK-180 typically had a top end speed of about 4 mph. The other con is weight. This motor is extremely heavy at 35-40lbs which is a lot of weight to put on the bow of a kayak, however, I believe this is due to the lower unit being extremely stout. You will need to purchase the bracket if you want to take this motor on and off a kayak. I believe that this motor can also be linked to Hummingbird graphs to plot a route on a map, however, I don't own a Hummingbird and cannot comment on how that feature works.
