Designed with policy-makers in mind, this webinar focusses on the current policy debate about the implementation of Votes at 16 highlighting what research tells us about the role of youth work in democratic education. Each year, around 4.4 million young people regularly engage in youth work activities, many come from under resourced areas, are less likely to vote and to engage with formal citizenship lessons. This webinar shares findings from recent research which demonstrated youth work’s role in equipping young people for political citizenship, underlining the need for an integrated approach that values youth work’s unique ability to support political socialisation alongside formal citizenship education as Votes at 16 is implemented. The session will also examine the barriers that currently impede youth work’s capacity and outline practical recommendations to advance the democratic potential of youth work. This presentation is followed by a short response from Dr Andrew Mycock and Charlee Bewsher. Carole Pugh's research profile: https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/our-staff/st...
