The beginning of a big trip for my 20th birthday to Los Angeles, California! My trip starts off in the early hours of my 20th birthday from my home of Edinburgh, where I would fly with the German national carrier, Lufthansa, onboard one of their Airbus A319s over to Frankfurt, which is Lufthansa’s main hub. From there I would connect onto my favourite aircraft type, the Boeing 747, & fly over to Los Angeles, for a week’s vacation. To start off my journey I decided to have a traditional breakfast in Wetherspoons in the departure lounge before boarding the A319 that would take me over to Frankfurt. Before the flight pushed back from the gate I had a nice surprise from the crew as they came around looking for me so they could wish me a happy birthday in front of all the other passengers around me. Not sure how they knew it was my birthday. Perhaps Lufthansa made them aware when they saw my date of birth in my booking? Either way it was a lovely surprise and it got my seat neighbour also wishing me a happy birthday. They also gave me some chocolates before departure as a birthday present. So this made the flight a fantastic one and we hadn’t even departed yet. We soon began our pushback and taxied over to runway 24 for takeoff & as it was early February, it was still dark outside as it was roughly 6:15am. As it was dark outside there isn’t a lot to see but it was a rather bumpy takeoff. There was the usual complimentary water bottle & chocolate handed out, however the crew gave me 2 chocolates instead of 1 as it was my birthday, & that was in addition to the other chocolates they already gifted me. As we got closer to Germany the sun started rising so I made sure to get plenty of clips as we were cruising over Europe, & we soon started descending towards Frankfurt. After landing at Frankfurt we were treated to the breathtaking views of all the passenger 747s & A340s, which got me even more excited as I would be connecting onto one of those 747s to head to LA for a weeks holiday as a birthday treat! I was also aloud a flight deck visit but was asked not to take any pictures or videos of my visit. Always enjoy my experiences with Lufthansa but the crew on this flight made me feel more like a VIP as it was my 20th birthday. It was the same case on my connecting flight to Los Angeles on a 747-8, which will be the next trip report.
