Material Flow & Vulnerability | Maud Cotter | Project Atrium This video was created by Michael LeGrand as part of an artist film series documenting Project Atrium installations at MOCA Jacksonville. In this piece, Irish sculptor Maud Cotter discusses What Was Never Ours to Keep, an installation that examines energy, vulnerability, and the agency of materials through falling, spilling, and suspended forms. As the filmmaker, I focused on how Cotter’s work negotiates tension—between control and collapse, structure and flow, human presence and material autonomy. The atrium’s height and geometry become integral to the work, pulling the body into a distorted reflection through mirrored surfaces and cascading forms. This film reflects my approach to documenting sculpture and installation: emphasizing how meaning emerges through physical encounter, and how materials carry emotional and psychological weight alongside formal structure. 🔗 michaellegrand.com
