SHORT NIGHT OF GLASS DOLLS 4K UHD REVIEW & CASTAWAY (1986) BLU-RAY REVIEW

A look at two recent 4K releases from 88 Films. 'Castaway' is actually a Blu-ray but taken from a 4K video master and it shrinks down so well and has such exceptionally good colour that you looking at a home video disc that is better than many, if not most, 4K UHD discs. The image aspect ratio of 'Castaway' is 1.85:1 and the sound is Dolby Stereo which is matrixed four-track stereo. Running time is 1 hour and 57 minutes. 'Short Night Of Glass Dolls' is a collectors pack and contains the 4K UHD disc as well all the same content, including extra features, on a Blu-ray disc. A double-sided large poster on high quality paper, reproductions on post cards of six of the front of house set (aka lobby cards) and a book containing many stills from the film to accompany the essays written by various people are all contained alongside the standard disc pack (with double-sided inlay) in the sturdy box. Image aspect ratio is approxiately 2.35:1 and the default soundtrack is dubbed English. The Italian sound with English subtitles is available via a menu option and this is the track that I preferred. However, there was no sound recorded during filming so even the Italian sound is effectively dubbed and some of the actors are in fact spoke their lines in their own foreign language which was not Italian so plenty of rubber lips in whichever soundtrack you opt for. This film was 1971 so the dubbing is actually very good because much care used to be taken with this in days of yore. Running time is 97 minutes.
