Kangra Valley Railway The KANGRA VALLEY RAILWAY is a 2 feet 6 inch (2' 6") or 762 mm Narrow Gauge (NG) railway service connecting Pathankot Junction on Delhi - Jammu Railway line in Punjab with Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh. The NG touches several tourist and pilgrim attraction places like Kangra, Jwalamukhi etc. The NG line was constructed in 1929, before independence of India. The line passes through the region that lies between the Dhauladhar ranges of the Himalayas to the north and the last strangling foothills to the south. The highest point on this line is at Ahju station at an elevation of 1,290 meters (4,230 ft). The terminus at Joginder Nagar is at an elevation of 1,189 meters (3,901 ft). The distance between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar is 164 km. The route will give you unique experience of a mountain railway. My friend Mr. Dibyojyoti Khakhlary travelled by this route on 12th November, 2015 from Kangra Mandir to Pathankot Jn. He tried his best to capture the scenic beauty of this railway line, later I edited his video clips and uploaded it in youtube. So, once again I thank him to allow me to do so. The locomotives plying in this route are ZDM3 class 700hp Diesel - hydraulic locomotives. They are fitted with a Mak/CLW 6M 282 A(K) engine and Suri hydromechanical transmission.
