“CORRECTION: The ride was actually approx. 345km, not 400km. I miscalculated when I filmed, but the challenge still felt massive to me after 30 years off the bike 😅 I just rode 345km non-stop on my Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail at 50 years old… and it did NOT go how I expected. This was supposed to be the ride that broke me – 3 hours and 45 minutes in the saddle, no stops, using the run home from Kellys Beach as a proper touring test. Instead, it completely changed how I see this bike… and what I can realistically do on it as a returning rider. In this video, I cover: • Why I chose a almost 4 hour, non-stop ride as a “mini Iron Butt” test • How the Heritage’s seat, riding position and suspension felt over nearly 4 hours • Fuel range, cruise control and how relaxed the motor felt at highway speeds • Windshield and wind protection on real Aussie roads • The truth about how my 50-year-old body felt getting off the bike at the end • The little “key scare” moment that almost ruined the whole ride • Whether I now trust this Softail as a genuine touring bike – and for who If you’re a rider in your 40s, 50s or beyond wondering whether a Heritage (or any Softail) can really tour, this is a real-world, no-BS test from someone actually doing the kilometres, not just reading spec sheets.
