In a significant development, the District and Sessions Judge, Seraikela, Amit Shekhar, pronounced the verdict in the Tabrez Ansari lynching case, sentencing 10 convicts to 10 years of imprisonment. The court’s decision comes after a thorough hearing on the point of punishment and aims to deliver justice in the tragic incident that took place on June 18, 2019. The court sentenced Prakash Mondal alias Pappu Mondal, Bhim Singh Munda, Sunamo Pradhan, Atul Mahali, Vikram Mondal, Chamu Nayak, Prem Chandra Mahali, Kamal Mahato, Madan Nayak, and Mahesh Mahali in connection with the lynching of Tabrez Ansari. In addition to the imprisonment, each convict has been fined Rs 17,500 as a penalty. During the pronouncement of the sentence, Tabrez Ansari’s widow, Shahista Parveen, along with other relatives, was present in the courtroom. The verdict brings some solace to the grieving family and reaffirms their belief in the judicial system. Tabrez Ansari, a resident of Kadamdiha in Seraikela, was lynched by a mob in Dhatkidih village on the night of June 18, 2019. The incident occurred when Tabrez was caught with a stolen motorcycle and accused of attempting theft in one of the houses in Dhatkidih village. The mob subjected him to severe thrashing before handing him over to the police. Following his arrest, Tabrez Ansari was sent to jail after a mandatory medical check-up. However, his condition deteriorated on June 21, leading to his admission to Seraikela Sadar Hospital. Tragically, Tabrez succumbed to his internal injuries on June 22. The subsequent legal proceedings led to the identification, arrest, and subsequent conviction of the 10 individuals responsible for the lynching. The sentencing of the 10 convicts in the Tabrez Ansari lynching case reflects the commitment of the judicial system to uphold justice and ensure accountability for acts of violence. While the verdict brings closure to a painful chapter, it also serves as a reminder of the need to foster tolerance, respect for the rule of law, and social harmony within society. The case continues to highlight the importance of addressing and eradicating mob violence to build a more just and inclusive society.
