Francesco Rinaldi improvises a Prelude and Fugue in D minor at the Agostino Traeri organ of the Collegiata di Santo Stefano in Novellara. 0:02 Prelude 0:48 Fugue Francesco is not an organist: he studies piano at the Conservatory, but he is prepared to improvisation. Some months ago, he was in Novellara, so I ask him to play during the mass. Before the Introito, he played a Praeludium in baroque style and I would like to share it with you. The Agostino Traeri organ of Novellara is one of the biggest Traeri instrument in Emilia Romagna. Agostino was the last Traeri member, which was one of the most important family of italian organ builder in XVII and XVIII century. Originally, this instrument, had two keyboards (very uncommon in Italy) with the Grand'Organo (Great Organ) based on the 12 foots. During the XIX century, Rasori brothers operated important changes, removing the second keyboard, reducing the Grand'Organo to 8' and adding a little wind chest for have more notes on the highest octave. Moreover, they removed some reeds in order to add different stops very popular at the time and changed the temperament. In the first half of XX century, the instrument was highly damaged: the chancel and large part of the case were destroyed as well as the Principale, replaced by industrial pipes and all the reeds were removed. In '80s the instrument was partially restored by Luciano Norbiato. The disposition is the same of Rasori brother. The "Ripieno" (except the Principale basso) and the wind chest are by Agostino Traeri.
