Script: Communication in general is a struggle for most people but is especially prominent when it comes to Relationships or in a Marriage. In fact, bad communication is cited as the most common reason for divorce, according to the study "Reasons for Divorce and Openness to Marital Reconciliation" by Alan J. Hawkins, I’ll have it linked below in the description. The 2008 survey talked to over eight hundred couples in the state Minnesota and found that fifty-three percent of divorces say “they can't talk together” as the main reason. Communication and the constant work to keep an open line for your spouse and partner is incredibly time-consuming. Like everything else in life, it would be much better if there was some sort of app that allows you to communicate. Maybe an app that allows you to pair up with your partners' phone so you don’t have to sync up time directly? With constant phone reminders that way you won’t forget. Oh wait, that’s what the Paired app is for. For every day for sixty days, my wife and I utilized the Paired app to see if it strengthens the communication skills in our marriage. My name is Jack Jenkins, I do product reviews and challenges in the realm of self-improvement to recommend you guys the best products to use. Today I will be reviewing Paired. [Jack Jenkins Intro] According to the website, pair is the number one relationship app that allows you to discuss different topics as a couple. It does that through answering different prompts, taking quizzes, and playing various games. You could probably tell that from the footage next to me that this is me doing the paired app directly. I’d like to think of Paired as a kind of in-between between going to a couple’s therapist and doing those BuzzFeed quizzes together. The app won Apple's App of the Day in January 2023 and exploded in popularity. It now currently sits at number ten on the App Store rankings for the “Health and Fitness” category. A ton of people gave it positive reviews. Still, I noticed that they were mostly newer relationships or couples who were in a long-distance relationship. I wanted to know if this app works or is recommended for someone like me who has been married and with my Wife for over nine years now. The answer is… kind of yes and no. I'll explain it more in a bit. First, let me get the details out of the way. The app is free but limited. You only get access to the daily conversation each day which can spark a few discussions. Getting the full experience of all the past conversations, quizzes, games, and more will cost you fifteen dollars per month or seventy-five dollars per year. That does include you and your partner, so technically, it's just seven and a half dollars per person per month. I want to get it out of the way right now because the price is too high. Six or seven dollars per month for both people would be a perfect price. At the apps current state, this shouldn't have too much development and maintenance cost since it’s basically a bunch of quizzes, articles and prompts. For that fifteen dollar a month price I’d expected more video and audio content with some AI integration. For background’s sake I am a .Net Software Developer in my daytime so I expect software to earn my money a bit more than probably most people. Even the yearly price of seventy-five is much over a much fairer price of fifty dollars. What do you get with that price? Well, once you and your partner log into the app you are meet with the homepage that displays various quizzes and questions to answer. Each day there is a new conversation which are sorted into categories. Those categories are Questions, Quiz, Game, Conversation and Exercises. Quizzes are where you select an answer to the prompt. Games have you try and guess what your partner guesses to see how well you know them. Questions are written responses to a prompt and conversations are collection of questions. Exercises are single-question quizzes that contain an article by relationship experts. My wife and I’s favorite Conversation category is a sub-game category called “You or Me”. The game has the prompt where you have to drag it either to you or your partners name to associate it with each other. It’s actually a fun time but since it’s a sub-category of a category there’s only like five or six options. I assume it will be moved out into its own conversation type once it has enough content.
