The Bull of Crete: The Story of Minos, Pasiphae and the Minotaur

King Minos of Crete prayed to Poseidon for a sign of support for his claim to the throne. Poseidon sent a beautiful white bull from the sea, with the understanding that it should be sacrificed back to him. However, Minos, taken by the bull's beauty and seeing it as a sign of his divine right to rule, kept it and sacrificed another in its place. Angered by this betrayal, Poseidon made Pasiphae, Minos' wife, fall in love with the bull. Daedalus, the great craftsman, then constructed a wooden cow for Pasiphae to hide in, allowing her to mate with the bull. From this union, the Minotaur, a creature with a human body and a bull's head, was born.#BullOfCrete #greekmythology #MinosTales
