In this video, we explain Immunoelectrophoresis (IE), an important immunoassay technique used to separate and identify antigens based on their electrophoretic mobility and antigen–antibody reactions. 🔬 Types of Immunoelectrophoresis Covered in This Video: 🔹 Classical Immunoelectrophoresis This technique combines electrophoresis with immunodiffusion. Antigens are first separated in agar gel and then allowed to react with specific antibodies, forming visible precipitation arcs. 🔹 Crossed Immunoelectrophoresis In crossed immunoelectrophoresis, antigens are separated in the first dimension by electrophoresis and then migrated into an antibody-containing gel in the second dimension, producing quantitative precipitin peaks. 🔹 Rocket Immunoelectrophoresis Rocket immunoelectrophoresis is a quantitative technique where antigens migrate through an antibody-containing gel and form rocket-shaped precipitin peaks, whose height is proportional to antigen concentration. 🔹 Immunofixation Electrophoresis Immunofixation electrophoresis is used for precise identification of specific proteins, especially immunoglobulins. After electrophoretic separation, antibodies are added to fix the proteins, followed by staining.
