The first thing to know is that an Anesthesia Technician (AT) is an allied health care professional — meaning a health care worker that is not a pharmacist, nurse or M.D. Anesthesia Technician Job Overview Allied health professionals are important people. They perform crucial tasks like diagnosing illnesses, maintaining equipment and caring for patients. Without allied health professionals, the health care system would not be able to function. Just a few examples of allied health professionals include paramedics, respiratory therapists, nutritionists — and anesthesia technicians, or ATs. An AT helps anesthesiologists by performing a variety of important tasks. Generally ATs help with the administration of anesthesia and monitoring of patients. ATs are highly trained, with a deep understanding of anesthesia techniques, instruments, dosages and technology. ATs work in operating rooms, but they are also employed in emergency rooms, intensive care units (ICUs) or outpatient surgery clinics. They have a role in all stages of anesthesia. Before anesthesia is administered, an AT might be responsible for cleaning and testing the machines, preparing the instruments and drugs and applying the monitoring equipment. When the patients is under anesthesia, the AT might help ensure that the dosages are adequate, monitor patients’ vital signs or help establish and secure the airway so the patient can breathe easily. After the procedure, an AT will help wake the patient and transfer them to post-op care units. Don't forget to subscribe our channel and click on bell icon.
