Located in the county of Wiltshire, and around 14 miles southeast of Bath, is the town of Westbury. The name 'Westbury' is derived from 'west' and 'burh', meaning 'western fort'. In 1252 a charter was granted to Westbury for the rights to a weekly market and an annual fair. The market ceased to run from the mid 19th century. Historically, cloth was produced in the town. By the late 16th century the first fulling mill began operation, leading to prosperity in Westbury around the period that followed. The cloth industry went into decline around the 19th century. Other historic industries in the town included leather tanning, malting and glove-making. One building of historic note is the Old Town Hall. Featuring just before the 9-minute mark, this was built in the Neoclassical style from Bath stone and completed in 1815. In 1848 the railway arrived in Westbury. It was initially opened by the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway, but later became part of Great Western Railway. Currently it is a junction station with direct services to London, Bristol and Exeter among other destinations. With the opening of the railway station came the discovery of iron ore nearby. In 1858 Westbury Iron Works opened just beyond the station. This became a source of employment in the town up until its closure in 1933. Around two miles east of the town centre is the Westbury White Horse. This is a hill figure, cut into the slope of a hill beneath Bratton Camp Iron Age hillfort.
