El Valle del Cauca is another of the 32 Colombian departments, located in the southwest part of the country between the Andes and the Pacific Coast. The area is surrounded by Choco y Risaralda in the North, Qundio y Toima to the east and Choco y the Pacific Ocean to the west. Because of its location near the Pacific Coast, the area houses between 25 and 50% of the country’s fauna and 11% of the country’s flora. The Valle del Cauca is the second most biodiverse department in Colombia. With over 725 species of marine birds and 100 migratory species, this is an ideal place for Colombia birdwatching. Get your cameras ready for some great Colombia birding photography as well and be sure to check out the rich diversity of amphibians, as the region houses over 130 different species. The reign’s natural richness is certainly impressive, but it is also an important area of environmental conservation and protection.
