I never realized how LOUD doom's plasma rifle was... for those of you that may not know, freeDoom is a project that aimed to completely replace the original commercial assets of doom with free, libre-compatible licensed ones. because it's a full replacement, and not a modification, you can theoretically play any doom wad in existence using the freedoom or freedoom 2 wad as a base. each wad also comes with it's own custom campaign right out of the box. and because all of the assets are freely licensed, the wad itself is free as well. combine that with a GPL source port like GZDoom and you have a one hundred percent free and libre doom clone playable on basically any operating system. probably my favorite open source/ free culture project out there, honestly. but then I'm a huge doom nut to start with so combining that with my other passion, free culture + software, makes sense I'd like it so much. both of these were played on GZDoom using a custom map I threw together in Doom builder.
