A Heavenly Road Trip to Tawang via Tezpur, Bomdila, Dirang, Sela Pass S2E5

A much-awaited break from work, we merged our Diwali holidays with some annual leaves and set off to 10-day long holiday in a place that was in our bucket list for almost a decade “TAWANG, ARUNACHAL PRADESH”. The roads and the views along the way to Tawang via Tezpur, Bomdilla, and Dirang are mind-blowingly picturesque. The roads are predominantly good, except for few patches closer to Tawang. Day 1: Shillong-Tezpur-Bomdila via Nameri National Park, Bhalukpong, Sessa, Tenga. Every stopover was like a picnic spot. We would just get off our Thar, stare into the mountains that we are ascending to, and smile at each other in pure joy. The night halt was Bomdila. We went to the homestay post taking a tour of Bomdilla Monastery. Monks were extremely friendly here. Homestay details: Tenzo Homestay, Bomdilla Day 2: Dirang: We shortlisted two places in Dirang since we are slow travellers and do not like to bombard our day with too many places in a rush. First one was Mandala top which is a cluster of 108 stupas on a hill top. This is recently built by the community there in the village, and is a beautiful sight to behold. Post spending almost half day here, we set off to Chug Valley which was suggested by the homestay folks in Bomdila, and locals cannot go wrong with the suggestions. This valley was just beautiful with all the cosmos flowers called as “I love you” flowers by the locals. We found a bunch of kids who were spending a day picnic in the valley, and we had some lovely time with them taking drone shots. After this, we headed to our homestay in Dirang. Homestay details: Anna Homestay, Dirang Day 3: The ride from Dirang valley to Tawang is the most breathtaking leg of the journey, with sky high passes, ice sheets on roads and multiple army bases. We took stops at Baisakhi, Sela Pass which is also the second highest motorable road in the world, and had some dosas from the café outside Jaswant Garh War memorial. Every stop and every view in these mountains blew our mind. The journey continues to the Paradise called Tawang. Watch out for our next episode.
