Based on a chapter from his book, Breathing with Orisha, Baba Oludaré brought us Umbilically Connected- a living, breathing performance art piece that calls for a global ceasefire and a “cease of industrial overproduction.” The work urges us to collectively pause, reflect, and recommit to ritualizing consent before action, a concept deeply rooted in his matriarchal lineage. "It’s not enough to be innovative. There’s a deeper Why that is connected to the way we breathe, embody, honor, and listen to the lessons which water, sacred womanhood, and the Earth have to teach," says Baba Oludaré. Umbilically Connected reimagines collective survival through poetry, rest, dance, song, and breath—offering a profound call to listen to our bodies, each other, and the Earth. Let’s all take a moment to reflect: When was the last time we did more for our bodies and our planet rather than with our bodies and our planet? 🌍 Special thanks to BAM Resident Artist Program 2024 and Brooklyn Arts Council for funding Baba Oludaré's work.
