This week in the village was full of cooking, family time, and peaceful moments in nature. Everything started with baby jackfruit, one of our favorite foods in Bangladesh. Jackfruit is special because we enjoy it in two ways. Ripe jackfruit is sweet, soft, and full of flavor. Unripe jackfruit is used like a vegetable in curries, fries, cutlets, and even biryani. After picking some fresh green jackfruits from my uncle’s tree, I enjoyed their natural village smell. The next day, I cooked a tasty jackfruit biryani with prawns, and we enjoyed it very much. Next, I made juicy and smoky Tandoori Chicken. This dish is very popular in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. The chicken is marinated with spices and cooked over hot coals. Eating this delicious grilled chicken outside with my family, under the open sky, felt very special. Then I cooked Smoky Chicken Mandi, a famous Arabian dish. Mandi comes from Yemen and is cooked underground over charcoal. This slow cooking makes the meat very soft, moist, and full of smoky flavor. It is often served at weddings and festivals, and enjoying it in the calm evening felt like a celebration. During the week, I also spent time in the garden planting colorful flowers. They made me feel peaceful and happy. Later, I cooked chicken noodles — a childhood favorite made with carrots and spicy chicken. The smell reminded me of my mother’s cooking, while my cats sat beside me happily. The next evening, we made a Bengali classic — crispy fried fish. With special marination and spices, the fish was soft inside and crispy outside. My father and I enjoyed it together. From jackfruit biryani to smoky Mandi, juicy Tandoori Chicken, chicken noodles, and crispy fried fish — this week was a true village-style food celebration.
