This Merida model is actually the 8000-E, and the team edition frame set here is Australia, right now, is only coming as a frame set. Word on the street is that a top end model will be available shortly in the market, which will include a power meter for just under $12,000 AUD. In this review I will focus on weight, price, aesthetics, riding experience and the overall package. Rating System: COMFORT: Front end comfort (absorbing road bumps & divots) Rear end comfort (absorbing road bumps & divots) Vibration on coarse roads Bouncing on seat over bumps General fatigue in the body after riding SPEED: Ability to hold speed free pedaling Ability to hold speed in bunch Ability fo hold speed in draft Ability to maintain or generate speed on descents General feel when riding a steady state Ability to hold speed and accelerate out of corners HANDLING Control & feel when out of saddle climbing Control & feel when out of saddle sprinting Steering control around corners Ability to quickly move to bike (avoiding potholes, riders, traffic) General feel at steady state riding General feel at high speed riding PRACTICALITY Ability to alter/change touch points with ease (Saddle and Handlebars) Ability to easily clean the bike. Does the paint scratch/mark easily Will the bike resale with ease STIFFNESS: Does there appear to be flex in the frame during general riding How responsive does the bike feel when pressure is applied to the crank How well does the bike comply when out of the saddle sprinting VALUE FOR MONEY For the price, how much value does the bike deliver Just like its big brother, the Reacto Team-E, the Merida Reacto 6000 is a very fast and very stiff aero road bike, and in this guise is a great aero bike on a budget. The cost savings come with some inevitable downsides, and the overall ride may be too stiff and aggressive for some, but if you want to ride fast then the Reacto CF3 frame has bags of potential and will suit weekend speed merchants as well as keen racers who don't mind upgrading the wheels. He found it to be every inch the race bike that a WorldTour team rider could want (more or less), but of course, we should all be so lucky if we can afford a bike that retails close to five figures. Trouble is, most of us can't (or won't) spend that kind of cash. Happily, this is where the CF3 version of the Reacto frame comes in, supposedly delivering the same racy performance and pedigree of its CF5 sibling, just with a small weight penalty thanks to the heavier carbon layup, and a big cost saving. More on that weight penalty later – the key take-home is this: Merida has managed to instil the same stiffness and handling as you'll find in its high-end Reacto frameset, for which it should be applauded. 2021 Merida Reacto 6000 - riding 2.jpg The Reacto frame even in this version is among the most laterally stiff road frames I've ever ridden. Whether you're controlling your effort in the saddle, or getting out of it for a short spurt, it laps up the punishment with ease.
