My intention behind this series is to give you a set of exercises to use to ground yourself, work through anxiety or mental blocks you may be having and basically get out of your own way. I know I can over think, over analyze and the purpose of an embodied practice like this one, is to bring your mind back into your body so to speak and give a physical form to a feeling or emotion. Our goal here is to process any worry, unease or self-doubt from inside our body onto the paper. And leave it there. Today we are going to practice neurographic art. This technique was developed by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarev in 2014 as a therapeutic art form that follows a series of steps to transform our emotion into drawing. This can be as involved as you want it to be. You may have an hour to dedicate to this today or maybe just ten minutes. Either way it can provide you a break in your routine and a way to recenter yourself. You can use any type of paper and mark making tool so grab some supplies and let’s get started.
