It is a baroreceptor, meaning it contains specialized sensory receptors that respond to changes in blood pressure. Function: The primary function of the carotid sinus is to monitor blood pressure and participate in the body's blood pressure regulation system. When the blood pressure increases, the baroreceptors in the carotid sinus detect the change and send signals to the brainstem to initiate a reflex response.
