Hey all, sorry for the hiatus. Here's a performance & score video for my Fantasy, for Piano & Mixed Ensemble. This performance is a rerecording of this piece, as the premiere recording has been lost. The performers here are the same as the premiere. This score can be purchased on my Patreon page, including the full score and a two piano reduction. Parts are available on demand. Programme: This piece was written from August 4th - 8th at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, during the 2025 Composition Summer Course. A dialogue between the Piano & mixed ensemble, comprising of Flute, Bass Clarinet, Vibraphone, Violin & Violoncello, finds its contrasts in the difference in styles & timbre of an essentially classical ensemble and a contemporary jazz pianism. This work was born from a short fragment of material for solo piano, very much in the harmonic following of british jazz pianist John Taylor, which became repurposed & elaborated into a contrapuntal opening. This opening, fragments of which still remain in the solo part, remained fully influential in the later writing & development. The contrapuntal style, here notable in its disregard of conventional classical metre in the over-the-barlines phrasing I first explored in an earlier Prelude & Fugue for mixed ensemble, explores the ambiguity of the opening harmonies, before resolving onto a more settled sonority, allowing the piano to speak. The writing of the piano part is rather sparse to compliment the overall delicate nature of the writing, with its metric placement being completely free to encourage similarly natural and breathing phrasing. This piece was premiered at a concert in the Stevenson Hall at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the 8th of August 2025, by the following performers: Conductor - Oliver Iredale Searle Piano - Tze Jia Hiew Flute - Valeria Nezhurbida Bass Clarinet - Pawel Jaworski Violin - Paul Docherty Violoncello - Chris McVinnie Vibraphone - Callum Speirs Thank you to all the wonderful composers who were able to help me push myself to new heights during the course, in particular Tom Green, who helped me get my initial sketch off the ground, and this piece started at all. ~ If you wish to support me beyond just this channel, please consider subscribing to my Patreon: / willow_ramsay_composer There you will find content for free members, and extras (including free scores, access to drafts, etc.) if you decide to support me, with the entry level paid membership being just £3 per month! #composition #composer #fantasy #violin #cello #flute #clarinet #piano #vibraphone #orchestra
