It consists of planned districts built in socialist era during the period when Croatia was a part of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia (1945 - 1990). It represents an ideal of socialist community with huge concrete residential buildings, lots of open space, parks, playgrounds, amenities, broad avenues and accessible traffic system. Like most European socialist era districts - Novi Zagreb is a bit controversial, you either love it or hate it.
