Even though she has been separated from her husband for many years, she is still legally married, which means being in a romantic relationship with her would be against the law in the Philippines. Like many foreigners who come here, I didn’t know how serious this law really is. In the Philippines, there is no legal divorce for most people, so even when two people have completely moved on, the marriage is still valid in the eyes of the law. That means both the man and woman could face criminal charges for adultery or concubinage if they enter a new relationship while one is still married. I made this video not to judge anyone, but to warn other foreign men who might find themselves in the same situation. The laws here are very different from what we’re used to in Western countries, and not knowing them could easily destroy your reputation, your freedom, or even your life in the Philippines.
