Merryn Kent has had a varied career - from computer programmer to librarian. But to her, the most important thing in her work is knowing that's she's making a difference to people. Merryn began as a research administrator with the University of Exeter, working at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health based at the Truro Knowledge Spa, a medical education and training centre at Royal Cornwall Hospital. Here she worked on BlueHealth a pan-European research initiative that investigated the links between urban blue spaces like rivers and lakes, climate and health. Like most people, the COVID-19 pandemic brought changes to Merryn's job. She began to work from home on a clinical trial called COVID-NURSE that is testing ways to improve nursing care for COVID-19 patients and nurses. In her day-to-day role, she handles the details to keep research running smoothly for the research team, making sure meetings are booked, updates are sent and everyone is in the loop. Merryn says "I am part of a project that is hoping to support COVID-19 patients and the nurses caring for them and it made me feel both moved and proud to be part of such a project" See more world-changing jobs like these on our playlist: • 101 Jobs that change the world ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to 101 Jobs That Change The World - our campaign to highlight some of the many roles that contribute to success of the research and innovation system.
