Build R2-D2 Curious Marc Hololights tutorial assembled with electronic parts purchased online. R2-D2 lights will shine bright. Ari of http://buildanr2d2.com shows you how to assemble Curious Marc Hololights. Start off by purchasing 3 Curious Marc Holo Light PCBs from OshPark. They are found in the Droid parts section. On the Astromech.net R2 Builders forum, a search can be done for Curious Marc Holo lights and you can find his written instructions and a full parts list. You will also need 3 reflector cones. an 82K, 100K, 1k, and if you want a 12V version you need a 470 K in place of the 82K. Also need is a small optoisolator, a MOFSET and .22 uF Capacitor. a total of 6 Jumper wires and 3 White 5mm LEDs. Start by applying a small bit of solder to the MOFSET pad. Use tweezers and heat the pre tinned pad and install the top lead. Now you can solder the other two bottom leads. Install the 82k Resistor for 5v or 470k Resistor for 12V. Next comes the .22uF Capacitor, followed by the 100k Resistor and 1K Resistor. After these are in place, solder the optoisolator and the 5MM LED. Make sure the LED is right on top of the PCB, so cut the leads shorter if they have blocks on them. Install the two jumper wires, one for the 5v Power Batt, and the other for the Input. Test your LED by applying a 9v battery Postitve terminal to both positive terminals of the Batt and Input, and apply the negative Ground to the minus side of the Batt and Input. If you disconnect one input, the light should go out. This is how you know you did it correctly. Take your reflector and widen the hole to 5mm using a 3/16 drill bit. I did this by hand and did not use a drill. Put two drops of CA glue A.K.A. super glue to each side of the reflector that touches the PCB. Make 2 more of these and you now have a set of Hololights for your R2-D2. If installing in aluminum HPs, you will need to make sure the leads coming from the bottom of the PCB are trimmed down so they do not make contact with the base of the HP. This is outlined in the instructions mentioned earlier.
